Argyle Receives Gold Designation From Scenic City Texas
The Town of Argyle has been certified a Texas Scenic City, earning a Gold designation from the non-profit organization focused on beautification of public spaces and transportation corridors around the state.
Argyle previously received a Silver designation. Cities and towns apply every five years for the certification program, which supports and recognizes Texas municipalities that implement high-quality scenic standards for public spaces.
The application process examines several areas including streetscape enhancement, parks and open spaces, lighting, sign control, litter and graffiti prohibition and landscaping. Municipalities are scored and designated at five levels: platinum, gold, silver, bronze and recognized.
Community Development staff were notified of the certification and that the rise in ranking was directly attributed to the sign ordinance update the department completed this year.
Scenic City began in 1980 as a citizen initiative in Houston seeking to reduce the number of billboards in the city and planting more than 200,000 trees all over the Houston area.
Argyle will be awarded its new certification this fall at the annual Texas Municipal League conference.
