ARGYLE, TX (April 6, 2021) – During the Town Council meeting held on Monday, April 5, 2021, Commissioner Dianne Edmondson presented an update on Denton County for County Government Month.

Since Denton County Public Health’s first clinic on Jan. 28, 2021, there have been 475,000 people registered on the DCPH vaccine portal. More than 250,000 individuals have been vaccinated, mostly at Texas Motor Speedway. Edmondson said there are about 60,000 registrants waiting to be scheduled.

Denton County has received and distributed $147.7 million in CARES Act funds and will be receiving and distributing $172 million in American Rescue Plan Funds. The Town of Argyle received $231,220 in CARES Act funds.

In terms of growth, Edmondson said that there are at least 40,000 homes already planned in Precinct 4, housing at least 140,000 new residents. The estimated population of Denton County by 2023 is 1 million.

EDC Dissolution

In Mondays Town Council meeting, Council approved the dissolution of the Argyle Economic Development Corporation.

In the next 60 days, staff will make sure there are no financial ties left with the EDC. Any assets left after all debts have been paid are transferred to the Town of Argyle and deposited in the Town’s General Fund account, then all or a part of these funds may be transferred to the new Municipal Development District Board fund. The Town will not receive its first sales tax payment to provide revenue to the MDD until June 1, 2021.

Argyle Eagles State Champions

In Mondays Town Council meeting, Council recognized the 2021 Class 4A State Champion Argyle Eagles Basketball team. The basketball team was 31-1 this season and won the State Championship Title on March 13, 2021, with a 49-30 victory over the Huffman Hargrave Falcons.
